All in one domestic Water hybrid Heat pump KA06-80

The KA06-80 is an all-in-one air-to-water heat pump water heater with an integrated 300 litre (about 80 US gallon) storage tank. It is for domestic hot water, not space heating, and suits a household or small building that wants to replace a conventional electric tank with a unit that draws most of its heat from the surrounding air. It is a different category of appliance from the mini splits sold on this site.

What it is

• All-in-one design: the heat pump, compressor and hot water tank are built into a single floor-standing cabinet.
• Integrated tank of 300 litres, roughly 80 US gallons, for domestic hot water only.
• Draws heat from the ambient air around the unit and moves it into the tank, rather than heating the water by electric resistance alone.
• Refrigerant: R-134a.
• Installed indoors in a space with enough air volume and a drain for condensate; the installer will confirm the location.

How it differs from a mini split

A mini split moves heat between outdoor air and a room. This unit moves heat from the air in the room where it stands into a tank of water. It cools and dehumidifies the space it sits in slightly while it runs, which is a consideration when choosing where to put it. It does not heat or cool living space.

Rebates

This unit is listed with Efficiency Nova Scotia as PHNIX KA06-80 on their list of qualifying heat pump water heaters, which carries an $800 instant rebate in Nova Scotia. New Brunswick pays $550 for an ENERGY STAR heat pump water heater through Save Energy NB. Prince Edward Island ended its hybrid water heater rebates on 15 April 2026, so there is no PEI rebate for this or any other model.

Rebate programmes set their own conditions and change over time, and the Nova Scotia rebate is applied at participating retailers. Confirm the current amount and how to claim it with the provincial programme before you order — ask us how previous Nova Scotia customers have done it.

Installation

This unit connects to the building’s cold and hot water lines, to a condensate drain, and to a dedicated electrical circuit, and it contains a sealed R-134a refrigerant circuit. Water connections and the drain are done by a licensed plumber, the electrical connection by a licensed electrician, and any work on the refrigerant circuit by a licensed refrigeration mechanic. Plan the location, drain and circuit with the installers before delivery.
